Crafting with Fiber Arts at Plains Conservation Center
Basic Felting
June 13, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
The dense fibers of felt make it amazingly warm as well as water repellent. Turning wool into felt involves nothing more than hot water and some time. We will make a simple bowl while exploring the process of felting.
Introduction to Embroidery
August 27, 4 - 6 p.m.
Have you ever wanted to learn a truly ancient art form? Embroidery is a relatively simple, approachable way to get into needlecrafting. Little equipment is needed and it doesn't require a lot of space, but you can create beautiful pieces of decorative art.
Learn a variety of basic stitches that can be used to create intricate designs. After getting comfortable with stitches in a small sample piece, choose to use a prepared design or design your own pattern to start an embroidery piece to take home. If you have some knowledge of stitching, this class will allow you to expand your horizons, but it is also open to complete beginners.
Introduction to Spindle Spinning
September 26, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Learn how to make your own yarn! The basics of this ancient method will be covered in this class, including fiber preparation, types of spindles, using a spindle and spinning and finishing yarn. All materials are provided and you will get to take home the yarn you make, a student spindle and some additional fiber so you can continue to practice at home.
