Don't Miss This Artist Talk with Ash Eliza Williams

January 20, 2025 Tiffany Coleman , Marketing Manager

Join us for an opportunity to dig deeper into the exhibition Language Without Words: Works by Ash Eliza Williams. The Gardens is hosting an artist talk this Thursday, January 23, from 6:30-8 p.m. Hear Williams discuss their creative process, inspirations and the significance of paying attention to the voices and inner lives of the planet's quietest and most wondrous creatures.

Language Without Words features 39 pieces from Williams' Communication Attempts series, where paintings are paired with small sculptures. The series draws inspiration from natural history museum displays, exploring how nature and objects are organized and categorized, and how they might communicate when placed in proximity. Williams employs various materials, including oil paint, gouache, acrylic, clay, wire and wool, to bring these concepts to life.

Williams' work is deeply rooted in scientific study and keen observation of the natural world. Collaborations with institutions like the Museum of Comparative Zoology in Boston and the McDonald Observatory in West Texas have enriched the artist’s interdisciplinary approach, focusing on interspecies communication and empathy.

Rediscover the world through the eyes of non-human inhabitants and contemplate perspectives beyond human experience.
