Personal Statement
I assist with genetic research in Denver Botanic Gardens' genetic research laboratory. The genetic research that I perform involves understanding population genetics for a handful of species native to the Intermountain West Region. These species are foundational for habitat restoration efforts after disturbances to the land such as farming or fire. Having an understanding of variation among and within populations of species is beneficial for our understanding of their adaptation to their environment. We can also use this knowledge to better direct our efforts for habitat restoration and species conservation.
