Rooted in Reading with the Helen Fowler Library

April 4, 2025 Allaina Wallace , Head Librarian

Write a poem! Learn to draw! Meet an author! Rooted in Reading is a celebration of books, art and plants. Join the Helen Fowler Library for this interactive event focusing on the joy of children’s books, art and creative writing. Ideal for children ages 6-12, Rooted in Reading includes an activities backpack, drop-in activities and instructional sessions on drawing and writing.

Authors and illustrators will be onsite in the Freyer – Newman Center to share their books and answer questions from young artists and writers. Meet Ana Crespo and Dow Phumiruk (“Hello, Tree”), Jolene Gutierrez (“The Ofrenda That We Built”), Sarah Pedry (“How Birds Sleep”) and more!

We are also celebrating Dia del Ninos at Denver Botanic Gardens throughout the month of April with a free planting kit. Get your kit during Rooted in Reading or at the Helen Fowler Library.

Join us Sunday, April 27, noon – 3 p.m. on the first floor of the Freyer – Newman Center. Rooted in Reading and visiting the library is free. Admission is required to explore the Gardens. Pick up an activities backpack (while supplies last) at check in.
