Production Over Hire Technician: Position Information
Denver Botanic Gardens Events Department is seeking over hire technicians to support production, installation, and strike for our immersive nighttime events (Glow at the Gardens and Blossoms of Light) and also to support AV operations for private events booked at our York Street location. We are compiling a call list for a variety of disciplines: electrics, sound engineering, carpentry, scenic painting, prop making.
Desired Skills (varies depending on the type of technician)
- Comfortable operating ladders, electric pallet jacks, golf carts, power tools, etc.
- Knowledge of electrical systems for lighting and sound installations
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to read/interpret diagrams
- Able to lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Basic skills in theatrical carpentry, prop‐making and scenic painting
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills
Types of Shifts/Calls
- Production
- Builds props/scenic elements
- Scenic painting for props/scenic elements
- Preparation of lighting/sound equipment for installation
- Installation
- Lighting, sound, decor/scenery and equipment installations (September‐November)
- Strike
- Lighting, sound, decor/scenery and equipment strike (October‐November, January)
- Organizing, inventorying, and packing equipment for storage
- Maintenance
- Off‐season maintenance of equipment and materials
- AV Operations
- Setup and operate basic speaker/sound board packages booked by private event clients (weddings, celebrations of life, organizational galas, etc.)
- Demand for these positions varies from season to season, with the heaviest concentration of hours offered from June‐November and again in January. Shifts will be offered via a call list as they become available.
Work Conditions
- Flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
- Primarily outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions
- Working on hands and knees, as well as at heights from ladders or lifts
- May be asked to wear a respirator on painting days
- Committed to working safely at all times
