It explores varieties of heirloom and hybrid tomatoes and the differences between the two. Learn to select which varieties are best for a beginner and which might be best for the more advanced tomato grower. Learn the ins-and outs of starting with seeds v. transplants as well as growing challenges and how to overcome common pests and diseases. Options for organic care of your prize vegetable are discussed.

This class includes a demonstration of starting tomato seeds, and each student takes home seeds to begin plants to be ready in time to put in your garden when the growing season starts.

Patti is a horticulturist with a background in nutrition. She is a retired CSU Extension Agent, where she served for 15 years. This is her 23rd year teaching with Denver Botanic Gardens where she continues to inspire gardeners-seasoned and new-across the Front Range.
