Kelsey Wilson

Kelsey Wilson will explore low- and no-maintenance plants in a series of watercolor botanical illustrations. Through careful study and depiction, Wilson plans to illustrate plants that can be used in home gardens and landscaping. Through her art, she hopes to inspire people to replace monoculture lawns with ecofriendly gardens.
About the Artist
Originally from a small town in Iowa, Kelsey Wilson is an active member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and shares her techniques through teaching at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, IA and the Octagon Center for the Arts, IA. Wilson has participated in art fairs across the country, including the Iowa Arts Festival, IA, Vail Fine Arts, CO, and Lawrence Art in the Park, KS.

Jaime Molina

Jaime Molina’s practice encompasses a variety of works and media, including large-scale murals, sculpture and multimedia paintings. Inspired by the plants and wildlife thriving in his backyard, Molina will explore the role of native plants in urban landscapes. During his residency, he hopes to create a dialogue between people, place and nature.
About the Artist
Based in Littleton, CO, Jaime Molina has exhibited work and installed murals nationally and internationally. These projects include a year-long installation, Past the Tangled Present at the Denver Art Museum, a monumental sculpture commissioned by the city of Denver in Barnum Park called La Valeta and a permanent installation in Meow Wolf’s Convergence Station.

Laura Ball

Laura Ball will spend her residency exploring garden design and the way living botanical scenes are staged and composed. Ball is interested in biodiversity within cultivated gardens, as well as the formal design principles gardeners use to create memorable spaces. Ball plans to create a series of botanical landscapes in watercolor rooted in her research at Denver Botanic Gardens.
About the Artist
Laura Ball works in watercolor to explore subconscious landscapes. Her work has been exhibited widely, including at the Denver Art Museum, CO, and Berkeley Art Museum, CA, as well as other museums and galleries in the United States and abroad.

Song Kang

During her residency, Song Kang will explore biodiversity and the sprouting stages of various plant species growing at the Gardens. Interested in depicting overlooked plants to elevate the mundane to the fantastical, Kang will create large-scale pen and ink drawings that highlight the textures and details of the Gardens’ smallest wonders.
About the Artist
Song Kang is a Korean-American illustrator based in Atlanta, GA. Born in Busan, South Korea, and raised in the Atlanta suburbs, Kang creates intricately rendered pen and ink environments. Her work has been adapted to multiple formats, including editorials, textiles, animations and packaging.

Devin Urioste

Inspired by the natural world found in city landscapes, artist Devin Urioste will spend his residency exploring urban ecology. His work will investigate the metaphorical relationship between plants and people in urban environments, with an emphasis on how both plant and human communities find ways to thrive.
About the Artist
Devin Urioste was born and raised in Denver. He seeks to give voice to his community through works rooted in graffiti, skateboarding, music, street culture and social justice.
